Many everyday conflicts do not come from bad intent but from a lack of clarity: two people think they are responsible, or nobody does. A responsibility matrix, often called RACI, makes this visible.
The four letters
- R – Responsible: does the work.
- A – Accountable: decides and answers for the result. Exactly one person or role.
- C – Consulted: gives expert advice beforehand.
- I – Informed: is told about the result.
Your first matrix in 30 minutes
- Pick one area and write down five to ten recurring tasks.
- Enter the roles involved as columns – roles, not names.
- Set exactly one A per task. Where that fails, you have found the first thing to clarify.
- Add R, C and I. Too many Cs slow things down, too many Is flood people.
- Discuss the result with the team and set a date to review it.
A small example
| Task | Management | Purchasing | Sales |
|---|---|---|---|
| Approve purchase orders | A | R | I |
| Answer customer enquiries | I | C | A |
In KI.ordo you find the responsibility matrix under Tools. It checks that every task has exactly one A, imports roles from the org chart and exports for Excel.
